Do you think political correctness today has stopped us from asking hard questions and having controversial conversations?

I understand not being hurtful or mean to people who are different from you. I just ask though has political correctness stopped others from being able to ask hard or maybe controversial questions that lead to eye opening respectful discussions and to truly understand each other and where each other is coming from?
