Shouldn't a nearly 4 year old know their colors?

One that is not developmentally delayed

It might just be taking this kid a bit longer to learn them...they are not clones, they learn at their own pace.... and you say there is no developmental issues
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Fernie yea, i know they do, I just feel like its time. It worries me too because their sibling is falling behind in school.

every child is different and learns at their own pace nothing is wrong with taking abit longer to learn.My nephew is 2 and he knows his colors and numbers and some letters i taught him most things. he's a fast learner.

@iamnikki not alll children.

Former preschool teacher and early childhood education major here.

Children learn at their own pace.

Of course exposure early can speed things up but knowing a few colors and numbers at 4 is normal and the more it is practiced the better but nothing is wrong with your neice and you are being irrational and sticking your nose where it does not belong. Neice or not she is not your child.

@SW-User How do we know the parent is not active? Do the parents work? Feed and cloth the child? Care for her. Roof over her head. Stahhhhp
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@JaggedLittlePill I know she isn't my child, that is what the word "niece" implies. I have every right to be concerned about my niece. Any caring aunt would be. Concerned as in, "she should have been taught" not as in " something is wrong with her". I do not care if you are education major or not.

It really depends on many things ...maybe they are color blind or maybe it's something entirely different
It really depends on the interactions they've had. If no one has taken the time to teach them, then it's unfair to expect them to know them.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@ProdigalSummer well it isnt my child
@iamnikki i kind of assumed it wasn't.
MrsKatherineArch · 41-45, F
They should know the primary colors.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@MrsKatherineArch probably not. Their other child is failing 5th grade. I think that says something.
MrsKatherineArch · 41-45, F
@iamnikki Well, I hope the child gets some assistance

yeah they should know whats red and blue and green and orange and yellow.
Peaceful · F
Were they taught colors?
Terrance · 41-45, M
@Peaceful what I was going to say

My son knew his alphabet at 18 months and was reading very early. But they only learn if you put the effort in
Peaceful · F
@Terrance it's really the only question. :)
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Peaceful sure but it isnt my child. Its not my job to teach it.
It depends. Family income, education level, daycare? Etc.
ANBY1070 · 26-30, F
My 2 year olds know colors. 4 is a little old to not know them.
SW-User
