Depends on what you're looking to go into. Not all high paid careers require a degree.

I support education in all forms.

There are major issues with the post-secondary education industry, the for-profit motives corrupting it, and the way we deal with degrees in general. But college is great. I work at a university and encourage and promote education for all.

@CaptainCanadia what do you do at the university?
CaptainCanadia · 41-45, M
I work in the IT department doing project work and am also on the faculty association executive.

very much needed but also extremely over priced

College is not for everyone. But back in my day an employer would train an employee to make them an asset. Now one has to attend a trade school to gain those skills.

Regardless of whether people are for or against, the bottom line is that unless someone is an heir or owns a successful business of their own, they need college or university just to be considered an "applicant" these days.

Even fast food and factory workers are educated now.

@LucyFuhr I agree

Don't go to private colleges.

Not everyone can afford it or wants to pay off student loan bills ... I think going to a trade school is a great alternative
MikefromEP · 56-60, M
It depends on the field that the person is going into...and where that education will place them.. if it does
That is a very complex question without context. You've answered part of it, now what is it that you are trying to find out? College degree(s) is a must for many jobs, but not all require it. Many complete a degree and are unemployed and huge student loans. Others have made a great living with no college, or even vocational schooling. 🤔

@tootie I was asking for the thoughts of others, as that is what I asked. I have my opinions on it; I wanted to know others' opinions.
@iamnikki Highly recommended for those that have chosen a clear path (or very close) to a career requiring the education. Otherwise, it can be a huge waste of money.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@tootie thank you for your thoughts.

A real waste of time unless you know exactly what you're gonna do with the degree
