Have you ever had a supervisor who made you feel stupid or annoying ?
I recently started my internship at an optometrist clinic for medical coding and billing. School did teach me the basics but didn’t go into depth into specialized clinics.
I’ve been here for a month and obviously I will ask a lot of questions. There’s different codes and prices based on insurance, age, the amount covered, the frames, the lenses, literally for anything there’s a code.
The supervisor seems to get SO ANNOYED when I ask him anything. And I DO ask questions every 5 minutes because I DO HAVE QUESTIONS; every single person’s insurance and glasses and prices are different.
Sometimes he’ll literally just expect me to KNOW things already and gives me tasks without even explaining.
There’s also another receptionist lady who is OK, but she’s not that great either and she’s very cold and distant.
Idk, I feel like a bother or like I’m not getting it and honestly it’s very discouraging. And to top things off his desk is literally so far away from mine, so he barely has time to sit down and explain things.
At the same time I think why the hell should I care if he thinks I’m stupid for asking questions every 5 minutes??? That’s his job- to TRAIN PEOPLE. Maybe it just takes me a bit more to get it but that’s fine, right?? Not everyone learns at the same pace. The only nice, warm person there is the doctor himself.
