this is not a fillibuster

our 9th grade ela/social studies teacher was ready to scream today. she said she is so tired of hearing people call whats going on in the senate a fillibuster. shes right its not a fillibuster. a fillibuster is literally when a senator stands in the middle of the senate floor and wont stop talking to prevent a vote.

@AbstractWave i could see the refusal to use the emergency funds for ebt is to try to force the senate dems to vote to reopen the government. they dont care about americans being hungry they care about illegals and making trump look bad

@Mountainlady16 short answer no you are wrong. I didn’t realize you were extremely right wing so I will delete bye
No, that's a filibuster. No idea what a "fillibuster"[sic] is...

And she can scream all she wants, but the Senate can write its own rules per the Constitution and...well, you can both read about it in places like
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filibuster_in_the_United_States_Senate
or
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filibuster
where it is noted that even the threat of a filibuster causes problems.

9th grade teacher does not understand current Senate procedure. But then if the best job she could get is teaching 9th grade, not much should be expected of her.

@justbob she does a filibuster is not whats currently going on. do you see senators standing in the middle of the senate floor and talking to prevent a vote no?

@Mountainlady16 It is not 1950 anymore. The senate uses what it calls te 2 track system. It's complicated. Google it. But anyway yes it is a filibuster under current Senate rules technically.

Personally, I don't htink this system should be allowed but it has been since some time in the 1970s.

Google will explain it if you really want to know, but anyway 9th grade teacher's information is decades out of date.

it seems to be more like a gillibuster
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@helenoftroy2000 i think in the end the republicans might pull it but i think it will be if nothing else works. one the biggest times it was used obama used it to pass the aca in the first place

@Mountainlady16 I think both you and the teacher need to read how the current Senate rules work.

It is well past Mr. Smith Goes to Washington days.
