For fork lift driving, it’s all about practice practice practice.
There are two types of fork lifts, indoors and out doors. Indoor forklifts usually has smooth tires and are electric/ low emissions (propane or CNG). You probably driving indoor ones, that’s why tire seems bald.
It’s always good to read manuals and get yourself familiarized with the equipment.

I never got proper training when I drove a forklift. I had to get an instruction manual and study at home. That is something I needed to do to be successful

First you shouldbbe trained and get a license for the make and model. Third the equipment should be fully inspected before each shift
