Not in the first year (aged 11) but in the summer I had my growth spurt and after that it was a different story. Gained six inches in height very quickly and with it came a useful sprinting ability, which meant I was straight in the rugby and hockey teams and won several athletics medals on sports day (still got them). Later, having moved schools, I switched to football and continued the athletics. Pretty sure our 4x100 team was South Liverpool Schools champions at our age level that year. I always had good hand-eye and foot-eye coordination so once I had a better physique, I was well into it.
Sadly, my final secondary school was very poorly organised on the sports front so I stopped doing it, although I did take up hockey again at university.
Some happy times 🙂
