A load of morons on tumblr started turning their personalities into ‘genders’ because they are insecure and don’t want their personalities and interests being scrutinized by society at large so try to turn them into an immutable characteristic

@checkoutanytime it’s also weird that as soon as the emo phase of boys tying to look like girls with bowl cuts, eye liner and nail varnish (aswell as self harm) died out, transgenderism became mainstream and seemed focused on men turning into women and also involves self harm (surgery).
