Should team sports still be part of schools?

They're expensive, dangerous, do not contribute to the team members education and actually take up a lot of time, and except for very small schools are limited to only a handful of the kids in a school. Some schools here have seven coaches for one sport and everyone has to pay for them whether their kid is in it or not! Needs a reality check.

I'm gonna disagree...I had a son who did crew...very expensive and extremely time consuming...we paid for it!! We stood out and begged for donations and we paid $400 each spring if we didn't sell coupon books for this pizza joint in town that sucked so bad I wouldn't feed it to a dying dog...

My other kids did marching band and softball...I knew where my kids were...they became incredible adults and have an incredible work ethic and can get along with the crappiest people...

I'm happy to say they didn't go out and gang bang, do drugs, get pregnant, or wind up in Juvinile hall.

We spent a lot of money, donated our time and raised so much money!! We traveled and chaperoned and car pooled when busses weren't available in the fall...

I would totally disagree with you...keep sports and other extracurricular activities in school...go out and support them!

Im ok with the other stuff but not sports. Two concussions and a kid's life is screwed up forever and the coaches don't care.

Are you one of those " participation trophy types?" Because YOU don't see the value of sports in school they should be stopped? Student athletes sacrifice and work towards a higher purpose and thrive in competition .

Not all sports are dangerous but they should definitely cut football. Kids go to school to learn not get brain damage.

Hockey is really bad. Two of my kids friends were hurt real bad, his grades plummeted, coat a fortune, pulled him out and basically said frak this!

Yeah I think so because it gives the kids something to do and enjoy and it keeps the kids active and social.

The one thing I think is bad about it. At least in my high school. Even though it was said to be an art school. The arts were almost completely ignored while football was everything. The arts achievements were never talked about on our school news ever but anything that football did was the most amazing thing ever. When our choir got first place in a competition it wasn't even talked about for a second. But still I think sports is very important for kids.

there are pluses and minuses.. when I was playing sports in school, it was practice after school, and games on Saturdays. school work was never hindered. that said, school sports, [in the collegiate level, are big business and use the players as tools to make the school much money.

In lieu of a free or discounted education

Of course -- but do away with championship layoffs, etc.

You were the geek who couldn't play, right?

And I make more money than all of them now. Yes!
