@HijabaDabbaDoo it's really interesting actually. This guy says 85% of people with a personality disorder will learn coping skills and 'recover'. Maybe I've only worked with the really severe cases who have no insight because I've never seen anyone get 'better'

@OhIsMe it is, I love psychology and its branches.
I think a disordered personality is the baseline, just like personalities without the disordered patterns, and these patterns are either heightened or subdued depending on how effective the coping skills are for them. It still exists, but controlled.
Except the extreme cases of course, where there's evident variations in brain chemistry.

Currently on environmental factors. He's not really touched on the biological yet other than the effects of the biological on emotions. I would love to know more about what is happening chemically to cause the visible symptoms.
It feels so strange to tell someone that their treatment is "be less you" but I guess that's what it boils down to. Have a hyper awareness of your own responses to situations and be ready to stop yourself from responding naturally.
