I’m going to die…. 🥵🥵

I’m scheduled to teach two ESL classes this fall semester. Both of them are suppose to start next week.

My speech class in the morning is touch and go. I won’t know until last minute whether or not I will be teaching that class because it’s an offsite class, and I still don’t know how many students are registered. This is the nature of offsite classes unfortunately. You don’t know until last minute whether or not the class will run, but I still have to prepare for it.

My evening class is a definite go ahead. I’m allowed to have 40 students in my class, and I reached 40 students after only 11 days of my class going live on the college website. Several of the students are previous students of mine who want to be in my class but are not necessarily ready for this level. But I can’t deny them. I currently have 40 registered students, and two more are on the waitlist. I still have one more week before my class starts, and I anticipate more students will be on the waitlist. I plan to teach paragraph writing in this evening class because they are low intermediate level. As much as I love teaching ESL, my pet peeve is editing paragraphs. And with 40+ students in my class, I’m going to dread it. 😰😓🫠😵

I must be blessed I don't think I ever prepped for classes I had to teach most of them were to adults that I worked with if you know your subject matter well enough prepping doesn't take as much. What's funny is I taught her class one time and so did the head of our facility and later that day people said hey Dale you did an awesome job and kept walking and she was standing right next to me we were the only two that taught stuff that day.

@dale74 That’s pretty bad.

@marsbar you find it all the time with government contractors and in government institutions. At the place that I work there were approximately 400 employees after I've been there for over a year I finally realized when I was looking at the employee database almost every single employee either worked or lived in the same town and almost every single employee I mean about 75%. This peaked my curiosity I then found out most of the people that work there were related to other people that work there. Out of all the employees there were 15 White employees of those only four of us were men we were all fired the same week they said I hadn't done certain reports luckily I had all those reports on the thumb drive that I walked out of there with so when I had to go to unemployment I showed him what they said that was fired for and then I showed them every one of the reports that I've done.

@dale74 Oh wow. Nepotism was alive & well there.

Just don't think too.much ...we tend to get drained faster by worrying n thinking.much more than the actual resistance or difficulty

It sounds like a bureaucratic mess is getting in the way of your ability to deliver quality provision. That is VERY frustrating.
marsbar · F
@Burnley123 I love what I do, but it can be an imperfect system. Because I want to teach, I go with the flow, even if it means waiting until last minute to teach a class. I’ve been teaching for a few decades now, so I can handle bureaucratic crap. lol

Sounds like you need a TA to help you with the grading!
marsbar · F
@JoyfulSilence I wish! Lol

It can't be that bad. Sometimes they make cute mistakes. 😅
marsbar · F
@LookingForTheSummer If they are decent writers, it’s not that bad. But if I need to read their sentences 10 times before I can decipher them, then that’s what kills me. 😅

@Darksideinthenight2 I have a lot of prep ahead of me and a lot of photocopying. I have to prep everything before Labor Day.

This heatwave sucks. Lol
