Finally passed my last exam and now I'm officially a doctor of dental medicine (D.M.D)

For the last six years I've been trough grueling study in medical school and it's finally over. Just had my exam in maxillo-facial surgery which was the last of six total exams for the branches of dentistry and I'm finally free to set out and start a career.

6 years ? I didn’t realize dental school was that long there . Which country ? Now … are you going to specialize or go straight into practice ?

@TexChik In Bulgaria medical doctors and dentists study 6 years and come out straight with masters as MD and DMD. I'm going to practice most likely, as an assistant for a wile at least to gain more experience, university is not enough and the pandemic really messed up our practical learning.

@TexChik Dentistry is a bit different here, most other types of higher education you have undergrads, they study 4 years and do a masters for 1,5 years while for medics we start a program where we study 5 years which is kinda like being an undergraduate, then additionally last 6th year everything changes as we focus solely on dental subjects and practice, on 6 branches of dentistry and they end with state wide exams. I've explained in more detail how it works for Bulgaria. So the last year we have a rotation of 2 months of practice for 2 subjects, 2 state exams. We do this 3 times to get the full rotation of 6 subjects, pass all 6 and you graduate, fail and know a world of sorrow.

@DrSunnyTheSkeptic here it’s 5 years of under grad, 4 years of dental school, and then if you specialize… you earn a masters with the extra training . But all ( DDS) grads are technically able to perform any procedure… but experience and continuing Ed courses are highly recommended before doing more advanced treatment .

Congrats

@TexChik Wow that sounds extra harsh, so if you go at 19 you graduate like it or not at 28 years old at least wow

@DrSunnyTheSkeptic you can apply early to dental school after 2 years , but they prefer you have a degree prior to entering dental or medical school
