I work at a school 🏫

** let me clarify. Their recess is only about 20 minutes. I take 3-5 minutes. This is only after I have told them REPEATEDLY to behave.***
I don't see that as harsh...

I told a little girl what to do and she rolled her eyes at me.

I accidentally said "back to you!". Lol
She was also mad because I took away her recess for bad behavior.

Keep on and you'll lose recess tommorow too..

😄

Kids drive me up the freaking walls!

I absolutely LOVE the ones who pay attention.

Going to dollar tree this weekend for plenty of snacks and little small toys that they CANNOT play with in my class 💁‍♀️

And when that punishment is no longer effective...?
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@SW-User They need to learn to behave. Rewards are effective as well, as stated up above.
If they still can't behave and stop disrupting my class, I can call parents.
SW-User
@iamnikki I get it. Teacher for 15yrs here. But sometimes them not having the space or time to run and get the energy out makes it worse.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@SW-User they do plenty of moving inside the classroom (I e, dance along videos for breaks). They also have gym class. Their recess is SUPER short anyway (school rules/schedule, not mine),so me taking a few minutes off of it , to me, isn't a big deal. 3 mins is an eternity to them.

I had a teacher that made me stay in until my work was complete she was probably the best teacher I had. 😔We called her Ms Boring-ger
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Lostpoet lol. Nah I'm not trying to keep them. Will take recess though. When it gets cold, they can sit alone at lunch time.
Lostpoet · M
@iamnikki Dang you take the 45 minute recess away? I thought it was the 15 minutes one.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Lostpoet nah. They have an extremely short lunch ( school schedule/rules, not mine). It's like 20 minutes. So I take about 3 minutes
SW-User
I would ignore eye rolls. It's fine if someone shows they don't appreciate my authority, as long as they comply with the order. This will be escalating to proportions unwarranted.
Medoesnotcare · 22-25, F
That’s quite harsh :( would a warning not suffice ? Seems like a very minor misdemeanor to me
ScarletWitch · 26-30, F
@Medoesnotcare I sorta agree
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Medoesnotcare
@ scarletwitch she is disruptive every day. Maybe I should have specified. Their recess is about 20 minutes long. I only take a portion, like 3-5 minutes. I do not take their whole recess. I'd be Missing my own lunch if I'm out there trying to take everyone's recess! 😄
InferenceEngine · 26-30, M
You know kids always scare me because of how I remember kids being when I was younger but...
they're always so nice. Of course I'm not a teacher or a parent so my interaction/experience is quite limited :D

I would imagine being a teacher is NOT an easy job. Good luck! LOL
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@InferenceEngine lol, I was intimidated by THEM at first honestly. I was like " I gotta be in charge of all these rascals?!" 😄But now I like it. AND I love my little bit of authority, since I have NONE once I step outside this classroom 😂
PhaqueYou · M
You must be proud...
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@PhaqueYou... when they behave and do their work, OF COURSE!

You must have been a problem child...
Eternity · 26-30, M
Addressing the root causes of a behavior and providing alternative routes of self expression goes a lot longer of a way towards genuine improvement than doling out punishments do.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Eternity that's what the counselor and social worker is for. I have them for literally a FRACTION of the da ( as I am not the homeroom teacher). I wish I had time to address root behavior.
SW-User
Remember it's the troublesome ones that need good teachers the most.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@SW-User agreed.
However I have them for literally a FRACTION of the day ( as I am not the homeroom teacher). I wish I had time to address root behavior.
ScarletWitch · 26-30, F
What did she do to get a recess taken away
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@ScarletWitch consistently disrupting my class. Talking to students who are trying to do their work. (Repeatedly, over the course of several days). You're already sitting in a corner by yourself 💁‍♀️...
