I start working in a 5th grade classroom on Monday? Any tips?

So I was a SPED (special education) IST (instructional support teacher) for a month now. It’s kind of like an assistant teacher. I worked with two special needs twins and helping them with toileting (which I hated) and working with letters and numbers. One of them is in general Ed full-time and I would take the other one in and out sped Ed to general Ed kindergarten class. Kindergarten is tough and busy, but at least I know what it’s like now. I helped in a kindergarten class until the teacher gets an assistant and she had one now and I got moved to help out in a 5th grade classroom. I’m excited and nervous at the same time. I may have to go over some stuff that I have learned back in fifth grade, but that’s was like….along time ago lol.

School starts at 8am and ends at 3:45pm. They said they’re going to have someone substitute but I hope I’m not gonna run the class alone if they don’t send someone.
I am studying to be a teacher (elementary education, mostly special education) so it will be good for me to learn.
Any tips?
Thanks. Appreciate it. 💖😎
I’m not going to lie but I’m very anxious about it and hope I don’t screw it up. I’m going to give it a try. 👍🏾

Relax! They’re just 10-11 year old students! You know remember what you have learned in 5th grade. You should know what their IEP is and their accommodations. Also the 504 plan. That’s your job as a teacher, well IST as they call it at your job.

Take some breath. They are kids first. You should at least be able to know their IEP/504 goals and what mods/accoms are used.
@Eeyore122 True but that’s the thing, I don’t know. I’ll find out tomorrow

How should we know? Ask the teacher that teaches 5th grade. Just look at the damn lesson plan and go alone with it! Duh
