"The ring don't spring out dog. That shit fits tight so you have to put a sleeve on the piston to hold them in place. The sleeve is what gets you pressure".

the sleeve is the piston ring compressor lmfao
a tool to help you guide the piston and rings into the bore with out snagging .
it is only used to start the piston down the cylinder when you reassemble the engine , as soon as the top ring is in the cylinder you remove the tool lol
it compresses against the rings to push them in flush with the piston ,
allowing easier fitment of the piston and ring assembly

@Scubaguy027: I'm no mechanic, but if the piston ring fit too tight, it seems like it would be pointless, since it wouldn't be sealing anything or moving the oil.
