The same way White Americans would feel about learning about slavery and how introduction of fiat currency to the world fucked up the whole world's economy.
Or, the same way British would feel about the monstrosities committed by the British Empire.
Pretty much every country in the world has been shitty. The more powerful they got, the worse they behaved. But that won't make awkward for the people of next generations.
