@Northwest I am actually referring specifically to non-war times.

Though during times of war, stress levels would be heightened and I can only imagine people would be seeking all types of distractions.

@iMystery I was referring to supply and demand. Historically, in times of need, or when large segments of the population live below poverty levels, more prostitutes are available, and with increased supply, prices are lower. Check out the history of 17th and 18th century London, and the US West, and the Great Recession.
