Think it was pretty equal.

@Psychologykate Was it choice or rules?
Psychologykate · 41-45, F
@GkB01 rules. In Primary school most indoor PE was bare feet. In High School we played things like basketball or volleyball in trainers indoors but everything else indoors was done in bare feet including dance and drama.

@Psychologykate Ours was choice but many preferred bare feet in both middle school and Comp. Like you, basketball was done in trainers and we had to run cross country in trainers as well. I don't remember doing dance or drama but we did badminton in bare feet.

@GkB01 everything outdoors was trainers. For indoor activities that required trainers, if you forgot your trainers then you'd have to do it barefoot but generally there was no choice. It was a set uniform of either trainers or barefoot depending on what we were doing.

@Psychologykate Were you quite forgetful of your trainers? I was and was told fairly regularly 'do it in your bare feet then' lol, not that I minded at all.

@GkB01 no. I hated doing PE barefoot! I was really shy about my feet back then and hated not wearing shoes.

@Psychologykate There were a couple of girls in my middle school class who were probably similar to you, did apparatus in bare feet because we had to but otherwise kept plimsolls on and were probably shy of their feet as well.

@GkB01 I didn't start going barefoot until early 20s and that was because a therapist suggested grounding as a tool to help with anxiety and panic attacks. Even then it took me a long while before I plucked up the courage to actually do it!

@Psychologykate I was about 8 or 9 before I started doing it in school, I was really nervous before that first PE lesson.

@GkB01 Reception class for us, so age 4.

@Psychologykate I don't remember too much of my earliest years, I suppose I'd have worn what I was supposed to, plimsolls for most things, bare feet for apparatus.

@GkB01 my primary school had a fairly strict distinction of bare feet indoors. I can only remember a few things that we wore trainers for and that was when we were older.

@Psychologykate plimsolls need to be wit at the moment given the Covid concerns.
