I think the answer will be sometimes. To be conscious of what we are conscious of will require meta-counscousness. I'm sure we won't always think at that level of abstraction as it would be too costly.
Besides, you would have to be conscious of your meta-counscousness - i.e. meta-meta- consciousness and that goes on again. I think we would run out of capacity for such a 'deep' level of thought.

I think we'd struggle to decide what to do with it as you could always expand on it yes
