"If it wasn't for us you'd all be speaking German!"

This is a serious question cause I've gotten this or similar responses quite a few times and I am really confused.
What kind of history are people in the US taught? Are you seriously taught that it was America that ended WWII? Because what we learn in Europe (or at least in many European countries) is that the US were the last ones to join and the war would never be over if it wasn't for Russia (and the Russian winter).
Do not try to attack me! It is an actual question and I need serious answers, it's like people on the two sides of the ocean are getting two completely different versions of the story.

@SW-User I think yes, but I live to read and learn and everything since school had just reinforced that view ... Unfortunately I get the distinct impression that American schooling seems to be American centric so I can understand if they don't share a wider view of what really happened, and by that I'm not diminishing the role they played, but they were one of many actors on that particular stage

@ozgirl512 Hmmm I can relate to everything. And yes, American schooling is American centric but at the same time I know this is an issue all over the world. Maybe it's more intense or more noticeable in the US but I'm just not sure why...?

@SW-User I think the same attitude exists in Russia to an extent... Just call it nationalism and be done with it

@ozgirl512 Ugh, true, unfortunately.

@SW-User it's only a problem when you believe it lol
