Can I refuse corporal punishment?

I go to a school in Texas that allows corporal punishment. My mom gave the school consent but I’m 18 and legally an adult. Don’t I have the right to make that decision?

Yes. As an 18 year old anyone putting hands on you against your wishes can be charged with assault. You legally can leave the school, look for work and live on your own, if you’re willing to go and do that.

@bijouxbroussard Well I’m not really tryin to drop out. I’m a senior this year so I’m pretty close to getting my diploma.
@filmmaker Then for this last year, the onus is on you to avoid situations where you might face punishment, if it’s a condition of your attending this school.

@bijouxbroussard lol unfortunately I already kinda put myself in one of those situations. You think there’s anyway I could avoid it without dropping out or getting suspended?
@filmmaker Basically, it’s about following the rules and focusing on your school work. Is this a boarding school or do you live off-campus ?

@bijouxbroussard I still live with my mom, it’s a charter school
@filmmaker Ok, so that means you’re not involved in that atmosphere 24/7. It shouldn’t be a problem to focus on schoolwork and graduating during the time that you’re there.

@bijouxbroussard yeah I know, I get good grades and usually stay out of trouble and everything but the reason I asked the question is cuz basically I just got into some trouble and I’m trying to avoid the punishment. My principal said if my mom gave consent I pretty much have no choice.
