Dilettante

it. - a person who cultivates an area of interest, such as the arts or literature, without real commitment or knowledge.

edit: there's nothing wrong with being a dilettante (unless you're ignorant about it). This is just a definition of a new word I found and thought I would write it down.

Yes - and is there anything wrong in this?
Melpomene · 22-25, F
@MartinII No, this is just a definition. Why do people think there has to be something wrong with it?
helenS · 36-40, F
@MartinII No there isn't anything wrong, in my opinion. On the contrary, we all should try to be dilettantes ("amateurs") in as many fields as possible.
For example, I am a dilettante in the field of classical opera. And you as well, I think.

@helenS I agree with you. Actually I like to think of myself as a bit more than a dilettante in the field of opera, especially Wagner. Also cricket!

@Melpomene No, I just wondered if there was any particular reason behind your post. If not, that’s fine! 😊

@MartinII Maybe you love "Parsifal" even more than I do...

Cricket - so very English! 😁
MartinII · 70-79, M
@helenS Well, I certainly love Parsifal. And cricket is one of our gifts to the world ... 😊🤔

@MartinII There is a reason behind my post but it wasn't to judge anyone.
