Is anyone here old enough to remember when TV’s first started becoming a common household item?

I’m wondering how long it took for the television to become a priority over conversation. Like, how it became acceptable to say, “Quiet, I can’t hear the TV”.

My father told me he got his first TV, a 12" black and white in 1952. He stayed up until 1 AM to watch the Brooklyn Dodgers play the NY Giants.
