Neanderthal man in a suit & tie. Would you notice him on the subway?

People on the subway are Neanderthals in essence. Why?

Neanderthals did not die out, we as Homo Sapiens inter-bred with them long ago. My own DNA profile below containing various geographic origins also contains a trace of Neanderthal DNA as does every human being on Earth (except for one tribe in Africa).

They are in us because we assimilated them over time.

@DudeistPriest 1.6% sounds pretty high actually 😯
@Quizzical Agreed. In addition, my Hominin ancestry, and by extension representative of other people's, also contains another 'caveman' relation - namely Denisovan. Mine contains even more at 2.1 percent:

Denisovans are from southern Siberia and closely related to Neanderthals, yet distinct enough to merit classification as a new species of archaic humans. As our ancient ancestors inter-bred with these two species of cave people, they essentially bred them out of existence but they still actually exist in every one of us.

So in a very real sense, they never died out.

Genographic scientists maintain this is a big reason why we as Homo Sapiens can survive most diseases and sicknesses because these ancient ancestors of ours were very robust in their physiology and resistance which carries over to our genes in a profound way.

Kinda like how the Borg assimilated societies and civilizations.

@DudeistPriest Where did you go for the info? I want to know mine 😁
@Quizzical I got mine for $150 on sale 3 years ago at National Geographic's Genographic Project at: https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com/

But you can get it much cheaper ($50) now at Amazon: https://amzn.to/2GYLA08

It's different than the other ones like 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage DNA, HomeDNA, or Living DNA which are more expensive. I don't know how in-depth they are but the one I got from NatGeo I am very pleased with. Enjoy!

@DudeistPriest Wow... Seems a bit steep, lol
@Quizzical Yep, I had to save up to buy mine on sale which was regularly $200. Amazon's is a bargain at $50. However, I'm glad I felt driven to get it as I can now connect it with my genealogical family tree that my family traced back to the 1500s in Spain. My intense curiosity to get a more complete picture of my ancestry felt more than worth it.

They're constantly refining their discoveries and posting them up for me to review on an ongoing basis. So the kit continues to give me ongoing value. Totally fascinating and like everyone I've read about who took the DNA test, I was very surprised to find who I really am:

@DudeistPriest It would definitely be interesting to see the results.

I swear blind I am descended from Vikings 😁
@Quizzical That could very well be. The built up anticipation and the delivery of the results add an entirely unexpected dimension to the experience. Expect your results to be multi-faceted and surprising.

@DudeistPriest I'll save up a little and check it out ☺️
