Which would you think is better? First study towards a degree in a particular field but possibly not ending up working in that field

or first getting a job, then studying in the field which is directly relevant to your job?

Obviously this does not apply to certain fields, but lets leave those fields for the purposes of simply answering this question?

I think second is better. Far too many people who go to university are not prepared for it yet. In all honesty, every single person I know went to university either because their parents planned their future for them or they wanted to prolong their youth because their parents were willing to support them financially as long as they studied.
