I be goin' shortly to the Smoky Mountains where apparently, they have black bears. They explain it's the brown bears I should worry about.

If I see one, do I stroke it or shoot it with my specially purchased American gun.

Black bears are as common as squirrels ... fast and good sized

Unless you are a calm shooter with a large caliber... do not be shooting bear

When you see them ... they are usually too close ... quietly back up

If you have to shoot ... and they are moving ... use the weapon to create sound, not wounds

You can often scare off black bears

But ... if all fails ... shoot and keep shooting ... it takes a lot to take down a bear.

@questionWeaver Even with my Magnum?
You need 357 magnum, from a rifle ... or better to be stopping bear

It is all physics

You have to stop their advance

You really need 50 cal to be stopping bear
