I be goin' shortly to the Smoky Mountains where apparently, they have black bears. They explain it's the brown bears I should worry about.

If I see one, do I stroke it or shoot it with my specially purchased American gun.

If you go through Cades Cove you are going to see lots of bears deer turkeys etc. Most of those animals are used to seeing people. Just don't try to feed them and follow the trails and you won't have issues most likely. They don't want to tangle with you anymore than you want to tangle with them so don't chase them and they generally don't chase you.

@Fungirlmmm Sounds like good advice. Gatlinburg?
@Fungirlmmm i'll try to refrain from chasing the bear. LOL

@Valentine Its between Gatlinburg, TN and Cherokee, NC... I think the road is 441. If you can go early right after daybreak to the cove then you can drive into Cherokee. There is gambling there, the Indian reservation, an open air theater with cultural reenactment, elk, bears etc along that drive too. I guess that drive is about 35 to 40 miles but it is a 2 lane right through the middle of the forest. Cherokee is okay if you just want to see the area in a day trip from Gatlinburg. Gatlinburg isn't as naturally pretty as it used to be because some punk kids set it on fire a couple years back. I grew up spending summers in those areas and still go there when I can. Gatlinburg Pigeon Forge are both crowded this time of year and pedestrians ALWAYS have right of way so watch for them. In the future go a little later in season and you can take a drive up on the Blue Ridge Parkway to see the beautiful colors of the leaves changing or maybe take a ride to hendersonville or surrounding areas for the apple festival or go explore the many waterfalls in that same area. They are actually more beautiful than the smokies. Have fun.

@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy people do it. I videoed them chasing cubs a few years back. I couldn't believe it. Then mom came out from the edge of the woods. If she had attacked them it would be like the elk that got to friendly. They would have euthanized her, but it would have been the peoples fault. Some people are genuinely stuoid.

@Fungirlmmm Thank you for taking this time. You're very kind. I will let you know. My daughter now lives nearby, so I'm hoping for a few trips in the next few years. I loved Knoxville.

@Valentine Knoxville is great. I have family there. :)

@Fungirlmmm I may try to do some open mic poetry there. Apparently they just love the sound of an English voice. Best James Bond accent 😉

@Valentine Yes that is a very truthful statement. Also Asheville has a very eclectic arts district. That's pretty much a weekend trip from Knoxville too.
