When did the word "hotdog" become one word?

I've always thought it was two words. I'm questioning my sanity at the moment. 🤔

It's still two words. There might be some move to make it a portmanteau. Language changes. For now, though, I think it's still two words. Unless some big advertising campaign redefines it, and it sticks.

Do you know what a compound word means? Or are you from usa?
GlassDog · 41-45, M
No, I have no idea. I understand the verb "to compound" but the small part of my brain which would comprehend this referring to words was removed after a near fatal yachting accident. Ironically, the yacht's name is Future Compound Word Imbroglio Brain Removal Yacht.

I guess I should have seen this coming! I should also fire my PA for including the word yacht in the name of my yacht.

Oh yeah, your use of freeform should be spaced too or are you using it a compound word?

Thanks for the history lesson! Not sure if you know times have changed and so has grammar. If you'd like a lesson on grammar, come on over.
