Must confess I spent quite a bit of time in this position at school when my behaviour got me into trouble. It was sometimes a punishment in itself or sometimes the prelude or aftermath of a smacked bottom from the teacher.

no but only because it was never a punishment at school. i spent plenty of time in “social exclusion”, sat outside the classroom, in the headmasters office, at home either because i didn’t go to school that day or because i got sent home from school
