Can someone explain this maths questions and how you work it out?

2/3 plus 1/4 plus 3/6. The answer is 17/12 but how do you work it out? Can someone please explain it to me step by step?

Go to the common denominator.For 2/3 plus 1/4 is the same as 8/12 plus 3/12 to give 11/12.Then 3/6 is the same as 612.Add the previous 11/12 to give 17/12.
