Why do we refrain from telling children stuff we would call adult?

Do they remain children because we keep them there? This has nothing to do with taking there childhood away. Is this a power thing or is it only information we find hard to accept ourselves? Do you wish you were taught these things early? Would the world be a better place if we were all educated on the raw truth rather than having it prettified?

Children are immature and irrational. They can't handle the truth--that's assuming they can even understand it.

@LithiumDrop Strange, I find more hope in kids and children while I recognize immaturity. It's I have little hope of adults so swayed by irrationality, which we all are suspect of, and children have time to not be this way ...

@LithiumDrop but isn't that because we keep them immature by not educating them? Aren't we all irrational from time to time. Is there actually anything wrong irrationality? And isn't a student only as good as its teachers? Sorry to turn your questions all around, it's only to make a point :)

@SW-User the thing is children are not stupid. We can refrain from telling them the truth but they see everything. So there is a fair chance they will resent us for it in the future for lying to them.
How can they resent what they don't know? How I wish I had the expertise to convey the damage done by forcing adult content and knowledge on little, undeveloped minds. They're certainly not worried about these things, so why should it be forced on them? When they're ready, that's different. @JovialPlutonian

@LadyGrace that they would resent this if they're not told how it is
