Should I really give up on my social and online lives in order to invest the time and effort I need on my degree?

I've been a scientist for 33 years and my education has served me well. If you like science, then go for it. If you are interested in another field, then pursue that.

Not everyone is suited to college. Some people are better attending a vocational/trade school.

You need to know what interests you and what you have an aptitude for doing.

By the way, you can go to college and still have friends...
