If you are giving up social and online time... then the answer is yes. There's simply no comparison when weighing the two.
That said... all indications are that jobs in science will continue to grow. Considering the very real possibility that some jobs will go away due to technology, and the growing number of (especially males) who seem to have nothing going in life... except maybe their online obsessions... the answer is again... YES.

@SW-User I've noticed that too with males. That is very frightening...

The continued infantilization of the American (and now western and even global) young male... does not bode well for the future, and has been going on for a while.
