I need help narrowing down majors and colleges

College is right around the corner and I need help deciding what I want to do with my life. I made a similar post talking about music education. It was my first love. Music is what I eat sleep and breathe. The clear choice to me if I didn't have to worry about anything would be to major in music and music education. But everyone knows that music teachers not make the biggest income. I want a job that I can easily support myself and my "future family", dare I say, in the future. Another option for me is sociology. But honestly, what do you really do with that that is exciting. The next option is marine biology which if I wasn't doing music I'd do this. I've always loved marine biology but again, what are you going to do with that? Be a scuba diver instructor? Should I go with my gut and do what I love and risk so much to try to find another major that I might not love as much but will give me enough to support myself and my family in the future? If so, I'd need to think of a major that I haven't already talked about because unfortunately, with my luck, you don't make much with either.

Focus on taking education that's interesting, not planning for jobs. Any degree can translate into any number of different careers.

As for colleges, best you can afford, and then whether or not you want to be close to home.

Music is also a huge industry. You don't need to be a high school band teacher. There are any number of different jobs you can go in to. If that's your passion, go for music education and if you need to change, change.

@mello8321 No problem. Remember you can change majors and people will adjust as they go through school. What you have a degree in is not as important as the degree.

@CaptainCanadia good hire more....at the Starbucks in my old office building there were plenty of baristas(most actually) that were college graduates and two even had their masters

@Goralski Sure. Degrees don't get you jobs, they get you promotions.

And how much is this education gonna cost
mello8321 · 22-25, F
@Goralski I understand that, but currently I just need to know what I'm going to go to college for. What college is a different conversation.

@mello8321 think things through that's all I'm sayin

@Goralski no I understand. On top of everything I've also been looking into a lot of scholarships to help offset the cost as well
