What are some of your favorite historical photos?

If I had to choose a favorite, it would either be Raising a Flag Over the Reichstag or the famous photograph of Chief Sitting Bull.

That was epic hey, the battle for Berlin...

Me? I've been interested lately in the Wyatt Earp story and the real people behind the story. Came across these photo's recently:

The real Frank McLaury (apparently he was shorter than portrayed in the 'Tombstone' film--maybe 5' 3'' irl)

Tom McLaury (also apparently shorter than portrayed in said film--perhaps 5' 5''--, but a little taller than his brother, Frank):

Billy Clanton (was 19 years old when he died, as opposed to then 33-year-old Church who played him in 'Tombstone' flim):

Ike Clanton, Billy Clanton's older brother:

Frank Stilwell:

Curly Bill Brocious:

Johnny Ringo (who seems irl to have been more likely to have committed suicide than to have been killed in a duel with Doc Holliday):

@PissAndVinegar You like the moustaches from that era? I do. 🙂 My late granddad had a moustache like one of those--had that sort of look.

My other late granddad apparently fought in WW2 as a crew member or pilot in a flying fortress, I think doing bombing runs over German targets. His wife was apparently newly married to another guy (before she married my granddad) who was apparently killed in the Battle of Britain or around that time, also in the RAF.

@MrWarfare94 I don't condone that, but it seems like a relatively common thing with war.

@PissAndVinegar most likely

@PissAndVinegar that may be true, but there was gangrape as well.

@MrWarfare94 You mean like he may have stood by while knowing his buddies were involved in that sort of thing?

@MrWarfare94 Not saying it's right, but one can imagine the emotions and ideology involved in the Russian invasion of Germany after what the Wehrmacht had perpetrated in Russia. It seems like there was a justification for such actions in the Russian psyche because of the brutality of the Nazi regime.

@Andrew19EightyFive at this point I have to disagree. On the fact that yes there were atrocities done by germans and others on the ostfront, now I should come out and say that I'm a firm believer in National Socalism!!

@MrWarfare94 I seem to be confused as to what you mean. 🤔
