Watching the documentary about twin flames

Or any "self help" group in general just makes me sad.

That people who are just looking for meaningful connections to fulfill their lives are being so horribly manipulated by people who only care about making money off other people's sufferings.

I wish people would stop and ask the right questions before entwining their finances and emotions into people like this.

Questions like:

Are they experts in their field?
Do they have degrees or certifcation from legitimate places?
Do they have vetted references who aren't a part of their organization?

It is also a matter of understanding what a coach or personal mentor is supposed to do. They aren't therapists. They aren't the ones with all the answers. They aren't the only ones who can help. They are supposed to guide. To ask questions. To help you determine what is important to you and to help keep you accountable.

Seeing these things makes me want to give my life coaching skills for free, just to stop the predatory nature of so many who have gone down these roads just to scam people out of money.

@HijabaDabbaDoo Yes!

I'm sorry you have had experiences with people who weren't holding your interests in their heart. That makes me sad to hear. I hope you have come to a better place now.
@FoxyGoddess oh yeah, I'm good now. I was just young and more trusting back then but who isn't. It was a learning curve

Anytime people talk to me about twin flames it sounds like just a way to glorify toxic attachments
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
@SwampFlower It really is. The idea of twin flames is actually really toxic. Your "twin flame", is your polar opposite, not the part that conpletes you.

@FoxyGoddess the idea of people completing each other is icky in itself
I'm Googling about this documentary ... so this was another cult?
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
@ThirstenHowl I don't know about that. Cult leaders tend to find the vulnerable parts of people and use that to manipulate them. The victims are often good people who want to help and be there for others. Being a people pleaser opens one up to predators and cult leaders are basically predators. So I have a hard time blaming the victims, especially when the leader makes them the item of blame, forcing them to take the accountability for their failures. The victims just want a positive outcome and are used to their detriment.
@FoxyGoddess I was thinking of the MAGA cult
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
@ThirstenHowl It's still the same really. You have a group of people who feel shut out of the regular society, are fed the idea that they are outcasts, and the reason is because all of these things taking away their "perfect life" (minorities, immigrants, LGBTQA+, etc) and how they deserve the life they want. When they hear that and that is amplified over and over again, it is easier to believe that.

The MAGA crowd have allowed themselves to be reduced to something they have been told is worthless while "others" get to prosper from their hard work. They've lived the right life and are being "punished" by "woke" beliefs that are stealing that life from them.

The MAGA are just as vulnerable, but instead of making those people slaves to bring in prosperity to the leader, the leader instead turns them into armies of hate who will willingly fight for them to get a "better life". The tactics are the same. Continuously make a group of people feel worthless and that only the leader can make them not worthless, you have a group of people willing to follow you without questioning the truth or reality of life. They are both violent in their own ways.
