I Watch Documentaries

I watch documentaries all of the time. I rather watch them than TV shows. I often watch history documentaries that cover ancient Rome, Medieval Europe, Victorian England, Imperial Russia, WW2, etc. On the rare occasion I did watch this wonderful documentary about perfume on BBC news and still watch it on YouTube!

I read on your profile that you are a historian. What do you like/love about history? Do you have a favorite period of history?
Freya · 26-30, F
@Mugin16: I love understanding how people thought in the past and how warfare was played out in society. Warfare is a subject I get very excited for because I love hearing stories of brilliant generals, military tactics, and the weapons that were used in combat and how that psychologically played out. My favourite time periods that i study are Medieval Europe and the Ancient Mediterranean world.

@Liv4Life: Not a subject that one would expect a girl to interest much. Who do you think were the best generals then?
Freya · 26-30, F
@Mugin16: Yes many are surprised to hear that warfare is my favourite subject! I get some weird looks but that doesn't bother me. Some brilliant generals I can think on the top of my head are Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Hannibal, Attila the Hun, Themistocles, Saladin, Frederick the Great. I could go on but I don't want to bombard you with a huge list!

@Liv4Life: That's quite a good list! This topic fascniates me too. I think Genghis Khan and Hannibal might be the best on that list.
Freya · 26-30, F
@Mugin16: I would agree with your statement. Those two were brilliant on the field ad the discipline of their men who would follow them no matter the cost brings awe to me.

@Liv4Life: Yes, it is amazing that Hannibal's soldiers followed him for 16 years of warefare in Italy against a terrifying enemy without much hope for support from their home city. He must have been an incredibly charismatic leader of men.
