I watched this on Paramount + last night. It really affected me.

It's so sad. In the end, she just wanted him to show even the tiniest bit of remorse. He never did. And, she didn't want him be put to death. She wanted him to find God so that he could see her again one day (in Heaven). She was such a good person. I can only imagine how that must feel --- watching the man you love try to kill you. Then, she cried when she thought about him being in jail.

It eye-opening. It's so scary to think about falling in love with someone who can't love back. Women often confuse love and control. And, many of these men aren't covered in tattoos. Many of them don't have a 5-page rap sheet with multiple counts of domestic violence and aggravated menacing. If I ever meet a man with those charges, I'm definitely going the other way. However, many times it's not that clear.

I will never understand women like that. Even an abused animal will try to fight back, or at least run away. 馃槥

@bijouxbroussard They weren't actually in a relationship at the time. She was addicted to drugs. He found her trying to leave the rehab center. That is when it happened.

@bijouxbroussard They didn't speak much about his controlling behavior or being abusive to her before the fire, but I know he was verbally abusive to her. For example, when her mother went to the hospital to see her once she heard about the incident, her mother ran into Michael's room asking where she is. Michael immediately said "It was an accident. It was an accident!' Her mother had no idea what Michael was talking about. She couldn't believe Michael actually caused the fire when she finally saw it on video.

He definitely had control of her through drugs, too.

This is a very sad story. She was a good person.
@perceptivei It sounds very sad. One place where I volunteered was at a women鈥檚 shelter. There had to be an inordinate amount of security, because the women, often with small children, were in hiding. And yet sometimes even after counseling, they鈥檇 take the kids and return to the abuser.

There were round the clock, armed security guards, and the shelter鈥檚 address was kept out of directories, but occasionally they鈥檇 catch someone calling their abuser. They鈥檇 endanger themselves and everyone else because they missed the guy. 馃槥

@bijouxbroussard That's so sad. I already knew this happens in abusive relationships, but this documentary hurt... He never shed a tear! He didn't care one bit.. that he maimed her, that she was in so much physical pain or that he killed her. It hurt when she'd cry and say "I just wish he cared". I don't think good people with a good conscience can intellectually comprehend that some people simply don't feel anything for anyone... 馃様
