If a sock becomes self-aware inside a washing machine, is it obligated to do laundry penance for the others it lost?

I answered "No" because it (the sock) did not place itself into that washing machine. The lost one was a victim of
a) being discarded in the garbage because it had a hole (basically a hole in one) by the owner or wearer of said sock
or
b) it got lost in the heat of the night
or
c) it was forgotten in the laundry basket, which is something I do too.
To sum up: Yes, I am guilty of doing a) and c). I don't do b)
