I Hate Political Correctness

My nanna told me something today makes sense. Northerners had slaves too. They just called them Irish immigrants

@Notmesam OK what's that fot
@Mountainlady16 That's what i see when people try to explain away the confederacy...
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Notmesam slavery existed in many northern states including all 13 colonies and your big hero grant was a slave owner dipshit
@Mountainlady16 So was our first president but then we fought a war and all agreed it was wrong and the Confederacy was bad..
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Notmesam war wasn't about slavery either
@Mountainlady16 That's wierd because the deceleration of secession clearly stated it was because of slavery..
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Notmesam it did but it's not only reason and Lincoln original goal was not to end slavery. He freed them in 1863 to hasten the end the war. Cause of war ended before New Years of 1864 it wouldn't have freed them. Also grant his head of army and Johnson his vice president owned slaves
@Mountainlady16 lol the reason is pretty clearly spelled out in the deceleration like throughout the entire document. Have you read it? The southern economy relied heavily on free labor and slaves were a big commodity. They were about to lose their livelihoods. Did you not take history in HS?
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Notmesam no I haven't read it but civil war was about more than slavery.
@Mountainlady16 Lol I suggest you start reading and stop regurgitating unverified nonsense
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Notmesam how about you pick up a history book not written in the north. The civil war was about states rights. Including slavery yes but also taxes, trade, tariffs etc.
@Mountainlady16 Lol our HS textbooks were from Texas if i remember correctly.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Notmesam printed but probably not written
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Notmesam have u ever heard of battle of chickamauga or Roswell mill workers? Did you know Lee was antisecessionist and didn't own slaves at the time of the civil war
@Mountainlady16 Lol denial is a big ass river, isn't it?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Mountainlady16 FYI, here is a link to the declarations of secession by several slave states:

http://www.ucs.louisiana.edu/~ras2777/amgov/secession.html

After you read them, try to explain why slavery was NOT the primary reason. Of course there were other grievances as well, including some that were economic, because the Southern economy was based on slave labor.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Notmesam what am I denying. Roswell mill workers were 400 old men, women and children arrested and kidnapped by Sherman on Lincoln's orders. There documents proving lee only joined confederate army cause he refused to fight against his own state. In fact Lincoln just shortly before Sumter offered him head of the union army
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@windinhishair so was the northern economy
@windinhishair Southern economy based on slave labor! That's all you had to say! It's always about economics and in the South slavery was essential. Now we agree!
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Notmesam than y did 5 slave states stay and 2 confederate almost didn't leave. The North's goal wasn't to end slavery at first.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Mountainlady16 How was the Northern economy based on slave labor? There were four border states that sided with the Union: Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, and part of Missouri. West Virginia split from Virginia, a slave state, in 1863 and also sided with the Union. But the other Northern states were free states.
@Mountainlady16 The Norths goal was to control the South by threatening its economic base....slavery. They knew the South wouldn't stand for it and many northern states were already abolishing....slavery.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@windinhishair the raw materials that we're used in the north primarily came from the south. They wouldn't been able to get that material as cheap if the south had not used slaves. Also north had another form of slave labor in the form of immigrants
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Mountainlady16 Immigrants were not slaves. Slavery was illegal in the North. If all raw materials were from the South, how did the North get raw materials during the Civil War?
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Notmesam correct more than half the northern states had slavery at one time. It was a fight over who had more power the federal government or the states still a issue todaym
