I Have Pet Peeves

I by far am not perfect when it comes to using the English language, however, I do have a major pet peeve when it comes to someone starting a conversation or answering a question.
If the first thing out of your mouth when starting a conversation or answering a question is "I mean" then you look like an idiot to me. Making that comment implies that you had already said something that needs clarification. How could something need clarification if you had just started speaking and that was the first thing out of your mouth.

Lmao. Or finishing the comment 'ya know?' It implies that either you are unsure if your words or you feel you are talking with an idiot.

I never really thought about that one before, but it makes sense. Maybe I have not heard it used as often as "I mean."
Plenty of sports figures being interviewed have started out their answer with that line. Question: What do you attribute the win to? Answer: I mean, it was a team win. lol
Wolfsgirl · 51-55, F
Lol probably because in their head they are thinking " it was all me"
aldnazmeister · 56-60, M
Lol, probably true.
