One of my pet hates has been necessary this week

The magazine has a higher than average turnover of staff but when you have to sack someone for extremely poor performance it is never a good thing to be on either end of for me.

Taking the bread out of someone’s mouth is for me always a hateful thing but companies rely on their staff performance and they can’t afford to carry dead weight. While I know lots of people will think directors are dead weight but they don’t see what directors do in the business to be in any way qualified to comment.

I didn’t have to give them the notice but as a director I was involved in the process as a separate company official. It’s hateful! I put in a good coaching phase if I think someone is lax, we are all distracted by other concerns but it means they have to make an effort to meet me half way.

Sorry. It's part of the burden of being an actual leader in the operational sense.
The way you wrote a post a few days ago sounded as though someone was being let go.
