Mermaids' tails should NEVER be able to bend like that. Fish and whale fins are almost like an elongated spine, and each vertebrae should have very limited movement... For the tail to look like that, it has to either be; A. broken, or B. Normal legs stuffed into the skin of a fish/whale tail.
@SapphicHeart Yes, I have! I feel like half of the people who draw mermaids do this thing, while the other draw them in a way that biologically makes sense.
Funnily enough, even though everyone say mermaids are part fish, they're most often drawn with whale tails - as in, made to bend up and down. which makes sense, as our spines bend that way and the tail would be an elongation of the spine.
