I Have A Pet Peeve
I don't like it when people say they're jealous of someone else. They're using the word jealous wrong. If they want what someone else has, they're envious. It's commonly believed that the words are interchangeable, but they have two distinct definitions
[b]Envy [/b]means "to bear a grudge toward someone due to coveting what that person has or enjoys." In a milder sense, it means "the longing for something someone else has without any ill will intended toward that person."
[b]Jealousy [/b]means "being apprehensive or vengeful out of fear of being replaced by someone else."
So as you can see, they don't mean the same thing. [b]Envy is the emotion when you want a possession someone else has.[/b] [b]Jealousy is the fear that you may be replaced in the affection of someone you love or desire.[/b]
If you see someone with something you like, you're not jealous of them. You're envious.
