It's not hate, it's common sense.

Why do some people (especially online) consider anyone questioning or speaking out against topics which are possibly sensitive or trending at present automatically assume you're hateful?

Hate is such a strong word and thrown around so much. Noone should be labelled hateful or anything for showing genuine concern for minors or voicing an opinion.

Those resorting to insults because not everyone agrees with them evidently feel threatened, are questioning themselves or simply aren't mature enough to discuss the topics in hand.

And some may be defending abhorrent things because they are at the least in some way complicit in the sensitive/controversial things (like harming children) and are trying to “normalize “ the horrible behavior

@wunderluv Yep, that's the really scary thing about it!

@Lanie78 yes, there are also the many who have been brainwashed and drawn into a way of thinking (well not really ‘thinking’ but programming) that has been done to them over the course of their whole lives. These people don’t even know that they have been rendered literally incapable of thinking critically about anything much less the world or the universe itself.
Or perhaps to ponder the concept of the true meaning of their own lives or that of humanity. They’ve been “zombified” by YouTube, Video Games, social media etc. ok I could so go on! Heck, I could likely write a book here (but I won’t-Aren’t you relieved? Lol)
