For those who know how to temper chocolate, here's the best way to eat mini oreos.

(1) melt and temper some high quality 70% or 75% dark chocolate. Callebeaut is great for this, Ghirardelli is also good.

(2) dip the mini oreos and place them on waxed paper. You can fully coat them, or grasp firmly and half-dip them, but the more chocolate the better.

(3) allow 30 min or so for chocolate to harden. If well tempered it will harden to a nice snap.

You can do this with full sized oreos, but then each one is practically a full meal. The bite sized minis are a more reasonable calorie commitment.

Yeah, oreos sells "fudge dipped." They use the word "fudge" because it's not chocolate, it's cocoa powder plus some fat that hardens nicely. Not the same flavor as actual chocolate. Similarly, there is this "decorating" stuff you can buy that "doesn't need tempering." If it doesn't need tempering, it's not actual chocolate. It may taste OK, but why waste your valuable calorie budget on half asssed stuff?
