Especially online lol, how can you even truly know someone on the internet? :/ I don't think so anyway.

There are those people who simply live to hate and cause other people misery. Before the internet when they did they might get beaten up for it but now with the internet they can do it without fear of harm. I am afraid they are out there in large numbers and like asteroids we cannot avoid getting hit by them from time to time!
