You know why they post things over and over. They cannot do research and more than likely don't even know how. That's why they grasp onto things put out by obscure person with a PhD. And when someone like you and I post a rebuttal to them, they go bonkers and demand that we prove our point. Then when we do prove our point, we're automatically branded as a racist or a homophobe or a islamaphobe or an uneducated redneck.

@ElwoodBlues exactly. Unless it's highly classified and/or sensitive, ANY information can be found on the Internet today. From August of 1995 to April of 2003, I was a Steward for Glass, Molders, Potterers, Plastics, and Allied Workers AFL-CIO Union Local 87 in Columbus, Indiana. I had to know all of the Companies HR Policies as well as the Union Contract Backwards and Forwards. When it comes to Equal Rights and What can or cannot be done in the workplace, I know what I'm talking about.

@dakotaviper As an obscure person with a PhD, I can tell you that I've done a TON of looking thru other peoples' publications for each & every paper I've published. You can find a lot on the internet, but there are still many for-pay journals that only publish abstracts on the web.
dakotaviper · 56-60, M
@ElwoodBlues I didn't say that you're an obscure person. Now did I. 😎

@dakotaviper I was merely establishing my experience doing research; both the delve into existing knowledge kind and the develop new knowledge kind.

@dakotaviper Research on most issues is just relying upon the opinions of other people who agree with you. Doing research on hard issues, such as math or actual history, is a lot different than doing research on soft issues, such as how to make an apple pie. On most soft issues you can find a 50-50 split to either support your opinion or to cast doubt on another person's opinion.

@Diotrephes
Fact is, anthropogenic global warming is accepted by a YUGE segment of the scientific community. Would you accept the consensus opinion of the American Physical Society AND the American Chemical Society? How about the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and at least 15 other national organizations of publishing scientists? See https://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus/
J. Cook, et al, "Quantifying the consensus on anthropogenic global warming in the scientific literature," Environmental Research Letters Vol. 8 No. 2, (15 May 2013); DOI:10.1088/1748-9326/8/2/024024
studies all 11,944 peer reviewed climatology abstracts from from 1991–2011.
"Among abstracts expressing a position on AGW, 97.1% endorsed the consensus position that humans are causing global warming."

True of some issues; not true of Covid vaccines. And definitely not true of climate science.Fact is, anthropogenic global warming is accepted by a YUGE segment of the scientific community. @Diotrephes I'm referring to researching actual archives from places like the Library of Congress of the USA, or the AMA, or the CDC, or the US Department of Labor, or any Law Library across the USA, or among other like sources. Hard Core Facts is what I research.

@dakotaviper With most of the important decisions we face, we don't have enough time to develop complete data. Most important choices are squeezed into short time windows with inadequate info. That's the human condition. "Wait for better data" won't solve most of our problems.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues Anyone with two brain cells knows that the climate is constantly changing. Remember the last Ice Age and the warm-up that resulted in all of the large ice sheets melting? It wasn't that long ago. There were lots of large animal species that went extinct as a result but humans and others survived.
Things still seem to be getting warmer and there is no consensus on how hot things will get. But, based on past events, the world will get colder and then freeze again. Will humanity survive? Based on the number of stupid people running around now maybe humanity will finally die off like the dinosaurs.
Enjoy life as long as possible. We are on a cosmic cycle and just along for the ride.

I guess it takes more than two brain cells to understand that the global warming / climate change we're seeing in the last 100 or so years is MUCH different from anything measured in the glacial & sea sediment records covering the last 700,000 years. CO2 is rising 100x faster, and temps 10x faster.
"How is Today’s Warming Different from the Past?" https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/features/GlobalWarming/page3.php "As the Earth moved out of ice ages over the past million years, the global temperature rose a total of 4 to 7 degrees Celsius over about 5,000 years. In the past century alone, the temperature has climbed 0.7 degrees Celsius, roughly ten times faster than the average rate of ice-age-recovery warming."
How is today's CO2 increase different? https://www.climate.gov/news-features/understanding-climate/climate-change-atmospheric-carbon-dioxide "The annual rate of increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide over the past 60 years is about 100 times faster than previous natural increases, such as those that occurred at the end of the last ice age 11,000-17,000 years ago."
Your approach may be "wait for more info," but we don't have the luxury of that much time before coastal cities start to see more and more flooding.

@dakotaviper That's all well and good about using "credible sources" and I do that myself. However, people tend to ignore facts and reality which is why society is usually in a bucket of crap. Can you recall when a politician ever relied on facts?
ElwoodBlues · M
@Diotrephes Anyone with two brain cells can make up a conspiracy theory to explain any and all inconvenient truths.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues It's a good idea to sell your ocean-view buildings now while suckers are still available to buy them.
The world changes; it's what it does. Remember when there was just one piece of land? Now there are lots of them scattered all over the planet. Humans and other species will evolve to handle the new world or they will die-off. It has happened countless times.

@Diotrephes Pardon me if I'm not ready to sacrifice $100 trillion worth of buildings and infrastructure. A trillion worth of insurance is a bargain.
You're gonna say changing the climate is impossible. but we're already doing it!! You would have told the Wright brothers that flight was impossible, LOL!!!

Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues I'm sure that it will eventually happen. Maybe in another 5,000 or 10,000 years or even longer. If people and other species can't cope with the change they will die-off and maybe be replaced with new lifeforms. There's nothing we can do about it.
ElwoodBlues · M
@Diotrephes And you know so much more than all the physicists and chemists and mathematicians and climate scientists working on the problem. Riiiiiight
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues hey can work on the problem until hell freezes over but they can't solve the problem unless they become absolute dictators and kill off billions of people. That's because the solution will require billions of peoples continued cooperation around the world in all kinds of societies.
Consider the reality that people resist wearing masks and getting vaccinated against the virus. They would rather take their chance on getting severely sick and possibly dying rather than do two simple things that could possible save them from that disaster.
Now, please explain how anyone is going to get over 8 billion lunatics to cooperate on a major issue such as climate change over the next centuries? It simply won't happen unless 95% of the population is killed off.

About 25% did. And about 80% of our 2021 Covid deaths came from that 25%. Evolution is a tireless worker! So what?
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues You do agree that the world changes, don't you? How long did it take for dinosaurs to become chickens so that you can eat them and their eggs?
The world's climate is changing. Who knows how long it will be before it alters the environment for the worse? Just remember, they used to grow barley in Greenland so it's not as hot now as it was then.

ElwoodBlues · M
@Diotrephes Not only do I agree the world changes, I know that we can measure the rates of change. And that's how we know anthropogenic climate change is real. Because of the RATES of change.
We have data from, 700,000 years, covering about 7 ice ages. The climate data comes from bubbles in glacial ice, and is corroborated by data from sea floor & lake sediments.
https://icecores.org/about-ice-cores

Here's where the various data sets were collected:

The most salient thing about the 700,000 years of climate data is the rate of change during those previous 7 ice ages compared to the current rate of change this century.

@ElwoodBlues As I pointed out, people won't cooperate on little, sensible, things like wearing masks and getting vaccinated to reduce the probability of getting seriously ill and possibly dying.
Do you seriously think that eight billion fruitcakes around the world are going to willingly sing the same tune and alter their lives to reduce global warming (or climate change) over the next few centuries? They might on another planet in a distant galaxy but hell will freeze over before they do such a thing on this one. That is why a handful of control freaks want to kill off 90% or more of the world's population to save the planet.
I hope you will be one of the survivors. I will never see it since I only have about three minutes left.

We need to get CO2 generation down to about 2.5 tons per capita; currently we are at 4.5 tons per capita. Problem is, the US generates about 17 tons per capita. Most of the people in the world are below 2.5 tons; they aren't the problem.but they can't solve the problem unless they become absolute dictators and kill off billions of people.
I'm guessing you're going on intuition here. Intuition also tells us the Earth is flat and the sky is a big inverted bowl. Intuition is a nice start, but until it's tested by science, it's not a foundation to build on.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues It would be wonderful if you are right. I'm just going by human nature and past events.
