What is the most racist city or town you have ever been in?

My parents told me this story. Back in 1984 when we were moving from Houston to Chicago, we stopped for gas at a town in Arkansas. As we were about to leave, a local sheriff came up to us and talked to my parents for a couple of minutes, and then recommended that we leave by the time the sun went down, for our own safety. In fact, it was probably best if we just got back on the highway right away.

My family and I went up to Zion Illinois to go by the state beach/park there, and in the general neighborhood we saw a garage with the Confederate flag hanging off of it. Very easy to guess what that person felt about race lol

The Confederate Flag has nothing to do with racism. Honestly, people like you see racism everywhere. It’s actully quite racist of you. @deadgerbil
@Carissimi Hey, don't come on to my post accusing someone of being racist, just because you disagree with them. If you are going to do that, you can get the hell off my post.

@Carissimi next up: how the Nazi flag only upsets woke snowflakes

Talk about being ignorance personified
@Carissimi Woke snowflake? Says the one crying about a simple comment that has nothing to do with them.

@Camelia Unfortunately, the only reason the Confederate flag ever existed was as the flag of the states in our country who decided to secede in order to continue owning slaves, when they worried that slavery might be abolished. The segregationists revived the battle flag’s popularity in the 20th century, but it’s always had a racist history. To many people it’s the equivalent of the swastika.

@bijouxbroussard Yup, the two flags get flown by the same crowd and it might as well be the equivalent of the Nazi swastika. Very hard to separate the Confederate flag from its racist history, esp when modern day racists still fly it.

@Camelia I remember when Martin Luther King, Jr was assassinated and the one thing I will never forget is that in the midst of our sadness some southerners waved confederate flags in celebration. It’s also remained a symbol of the KKK, so its connection with racism is indisputable. 🙁
@deadgerbil Exactly right.

@Carissimi it represents slavery, treason AND racism whether you like it or not - can't hide history just because it makes you uncomfortable
