People complain paper money is worthless we just think it is valuable so we should switch back to gold.

But the thing is gold pretty much is as well. There is a belief it was historically valuable because it was rare, but that's not the reason why. Historically it was considered valuable because people believed it being the only known noble element at the time and resistent to oxidation and chemical reactions, that it was immortal and held the key to immortality. It was valuable based on a magical thinking and we just keep going along with it in modern times because of tradition. There's some modern alue in it being used in electronics and rare, but not at the clip that gets valued at and there are rarer and more useful elements out there. Also it's usefulness in relation to it's availability isn't at the same ratio as more common minerals and elements.
.

Long story short the value of gold is just because we believe it is the same as any other currency. All currency is pretty much worthless bullshit unless we believe it to be otherwise.

Exactly. The only things of real value when things go south are tools and raw materials that can actually be of use, not gold for jewelry and other fashion statements

Bartering might be the only true way to let things have their true value.

@SeaGlass yep. I mean really grain is more valuable in the grand scheme of things but ancient empires couldn't allow a currency to be based on a valuable commodity that anyone could develope themselves. It would upset the power structure. So best to convince them to over value a hard to find rock the powers can hoard and limit

@MethDozer Those power-hungry mo'fos
